ACTIVITIES

Networking

Online yahoo group for members to pose questions, exchange ideas and share views and opinions.

Tea-time informal meetings amongst members to brainstorm ideas.

Cell groups (by geographical regions) to give members opportunities to have peer support within easy reach.

Mentoring Circle

‘Buddy’ system for newly recruited VPMs.  Newbies to the field need not worry about the lack of supervision as they can approach MOVE for attachment to a veteran VPM who can share with them the ropes of the trade.

Orientation Programmes for newly recruited VPMs to let them understand the role of a VPM’s job and the commitment level required of them.

Advocacy

Job Definition – In the absence of a well-defined job scope, the uncertainties surrounding the roles and responsibilities of VPMs persists.  MOVE will identify the critical functions of a VPM as a first step to remedy this situation.

The Association strongly advocates the benefits of employing a designated/delegated VPM.

CEO Breakfast Roundtable discussions will be held at least twice in a year for the purpose of sharing with industry management these advocacy issues.

Training & Research

As part of our ongoing effort to promote training for members, we will negotiate with existing organisations for special discounts for MOVE members attending their workshops and training courses.

MOVE will also collaborate with interested organisations to co-organise Annual VC Retreats.

Funding will be sought to send one or more delegates to International Conferences.

MOVE may offer scholarships to interested and deserving members in partnership with overseas tertiary institutions.

Local research on volunteer management will be encouraged through Focus Groups or Online Surveys.

In advancing fervour and interest in local research and life-long learning, MOVE will seek to publish local research papers, articles and reports on volunteer management issues.

Recognition

A social event will be held on 1 November to mark International Volunteer Manager Appreciation Day.

The Annual Outstanding VPM Award may be re-introduced to promote personal keenness in service excellence, proficiency and dedication.

Standards

MOVE will introduce a Code of Ethics by which practitioners in the field may refer to in order to maintain high moral and ethical behaviour in the workplace.

Accreditation

One of the values we subscribe to is ‘life-long learning’.  More than learning, we seek accreditation. In the long-term, we envision the day when our in-house training programme in volunteer management would receive accreditation from an institution of higher learning of repute.
